I was charged with misdemeanor drug possession for being in a car with close enough proximity to a few pills I was unaware were there. The DA was able to see I was not guilty and all charges were dismissed. HOWEVER, Guilford County denies handgun permits to people who have even been charged in the past 3 years. Even if not found guilty/dismissed so I know currently I am ineligible. My defense attorney is currently in the process of expunging my arrest record, if I get my record expunged would that information be available to the issuer of the permit? Would like an answer from someone who's practiced law enforcement or attorneys that have worked in Guilford County. Thanks in advance :) Because I am an Eagle scout and ever since then I've been involved in competitive shooting, I have one of the top attorney's in the nation and he says it will take about 2 months to erase every trace of it from all databases in the US.
